This book is a complete collection of medical studies of the effects of exercise on the heart. It is intended as a medical textbook or physicians reference, but can be understood by intelligent layman as well. Anyone hoping to extend his lifespan with a serious exercise program should read the relevant parts of this book, or at least make sure that his cardiologist has read it. The book puts to rest many myths on the subject, particularly the one that promises that marathon runners are immune to heart disease. The only shortcoming I found is that none of the subjects of any of the studies were over age 75. As an 80 year old with a serious exercise program, I feel somewhat left out.
