Initially, I showed my blog to a few close ones which included one of my dearest, oldest and best friends. She was very happy to know that I was thinking of blogging about books, she's a fellow bookworm. Then I disappointed her, with the rude shock of taking my blog off the internet before she could see it! Needless to say, she was mildly miffed! So this one is out to you, Laksh, I love you loads :)
I thought long and hard before deciding on my first book post. I wanted to start off with something I relate many fond memories to, I needed my first blog to be about something close to my heart. The best way to decide the book?
1.Stand in front of your bookshelf (shelves in my case, I thank my mum for allowing me all the book space)
2. Stare at your collection, pick out your favorites.
3. Come to the realisation that they're all your favourites (Duh.)
3. Suddenly find one book that makes you go wheeeeeeee !
You might find my choice of books very random, illogical, even silly at times, especially this first one. But I stand by a simple thought - a book can only be as good or as bad as you want it to. When Daddy Was A Little Boy is a gem for me, I relate a large chunk of my growing years with this book. I don't have any hesitation in using it as my first post! You might wonder why I'd be talking about a book that I read as a kid, which isn't going to be something you would read at a later age. Maybe you'd think a new book should be the way to begin. Well, excuse me for the bluntness, but I'm a student with limited time and limited money to spend, I find it hard to read/buy new material every day, every week- I don't have the luxury of the amount of hours or dollars needed. So why not go the old school way, reflect on books that I already have and just share it with you? Lets leave the new-book-reviews to be a monthly event, there's so much more I have to share!
Getting back to Daddy being a little boy, this book is an absolute delight. Simple, short and sweet stories is what hooked me onto it in the first place, along with the adorable illustrative art featuring Daddy. The author speaks of his childhood stories that he narrates to his daughter often. Sometimes he tells her stories about other daddies. Stories of how he threw a ball under a car, how he killed a snake, how girls were nasty to daddy, how daddy saw his first movie. What I had loved about this book was how easily I could relate in some amounts to every single story written in it. It was as though I were reading my own stories, twisted into something on a different level altogether.
This is one of the few books that I don't remember getting - I have absolutely no idea how it landed in my hands. ( I promise, such are very few. I'm usually really good at remembering my book's history). Also, I dont expect you to run out and get a copy for yourself either. But I would highly recommend getting it for any kid you may know. Get it for yourself if you are into a bit of therapeutic children's book reading (like me). It is sheer enjoyment packed together in 28 stories. Relive the memories!
Even if you don't have the chance or the inclination to read the book out, I still hope this made for an interesting post to read. In case it didn't , there are many more posts coming your way ! Happy reading !
